Librarians say that this would be great and would be better than lecturers lecturing at them.
However, librarians believe that lecturers are best off to offer the students for their support. They argue that lecturers will be better at giving effective and correct lectures when they use the internet to enhance their teaching. The challenge for lecturers, therefore, is to find ways to increase the effectiveness of their teaching without having to resort to technology.
Will Technology End Lecturers?
What happens to lecturers in the future when there is no longer a need for lecturers? Will all the information technology become enough for students to learn? Is it possible to replace lecturers with the power of computers?
Online education is growing at a rapid rate. It has been the chosen solution for some students who cannot attend lectures in person. They can learn by sitting in front of the computer. There are quite a few websites which provide lectures via the internet.
The advantage of online learning is that you get a chance to learn from your own convenience. You can attend the lectures when you want to. You can also work during breaks if you do not have the time to attend lectures.
But lecturers, which means people who are employed as instructors at universities and colleges are often on the verge of extinction. There is a possibility that they may lose their jobs or even be retired by the time the technology of the internet has reached a point where it can replace the lectures as a source of learning. One has to ask, “Is there any point in teaching at a college when people who need them most can learn online?”
Teaching is a difficult job which is highly dependent on the skills and knowledge of the teacher. However, how long will it be before the student is just as capable as the teacher? What will happen to lecturers if the students have no need for them? And if the students are as proficient as the teachers they are aiming to replace, then why should lecturers continue to exist?

How will we motivate lecturers if online learning becomes so commonplace that they are phased out completely? Lecturers are a part of the educational process. They give students a glimpse into the education system as well as how the education system works. They give students a reason to want to learn and are an integral part of the learning process. If computers replace the use of lecturers, why should we continue to devote our time and energy to them?
Why can’t we simply eliminate lecturers and allow students to learn in their own time? Computers have brought much new technology to the educational system but only in a limited manner and it seems to be adding one more problem to the one already there.
How Technology End Lecturers?
Well if I was to ask any of my colleagues and fellow lecturers how they felt about how technology has affected teaching, I think they would be a little bit surprised to hear me utter that question. Some may have told me that it was a good thing. Others have been a little less forthcoming in that regard.
However, I do believe that lecturers have experienced some form of loss of control. Their jobs now are not very different to what they used to be, but the technology they were used to dealing with is quite different from what they are required to deal with now.
New types of technologies do not necessarily provide more opportunity for us as lecturers than older technologies did. What we have to face is a genuine need for change, and we need to be prepared to change with it.
In my mind there is nothing more unenviable than lecturing. We are still very much the authority figures in our courses, so we have to be physically at our desks, surrounded by those people who have an interest in the material that we teach. Some will be sitting together, studying or doing homework, and some will be watching us, to check whether we are doing well.
Lecturers today will often have to make changes to their methods of doing their work, because of technology. That means having to learn how to work with software that is quite different from what they were used to using.
When I first started lecturing and discussing technology end with my students, my students would often tell me about their problems and their frustrations, which I really did not understand. Of course, I could take them aside and explain their problem, but that did not help them understand that they were making a mistake. They felt they were making mistakes because I was not helping them.
When I began talking about how to make a presentation with PowerPoint, that was a definite point of frustration for many of my students. The presenter, while she might be an experienced presenter, still had to make some decisions. She would have to remember to decide what to show, how to present it, and how to get it in the right order for the viewer to see it.
With information technology, such as computers, we find ourselves in a different kind of situation. A technology is not something that can be found in a university library or on a line of computer books. No, we cannot go into an office and hand them over to a colleague to use.
All the power in the world is not going to solve lecturers’ problems, when they are trying to put together a PowerPoint presentation, or write a report, or try to explain something to someone who is completely unfamiliar with it. Those who are trying to make these things will need help they cannot get from the latest technologies.
That is why lecturers need to study how the new technologies will affect teaching and learning. We need to do it in our seminars, but then also we need to make sure that we get involved in learning new technologies for ourselves as well.
Because for those of us who use new technologies in teaching, we need to figure out how to make those technologies work with us. We need to consider what those technologies can mean for us and for our future lecturers.

The full-time lecturer is gone and technology has long since replaced the librarian as the expert. We now need to move on from lecture to how students learn. But should it?
Students may think that if they do get a good teacher, then the rest is irrelevant. So the problem becomes where can we find the next generation of students, teachers and librarians?
With technology making a major comeback, we need to look at a learning methodology that adapts to the needs of today’s learners. Nowadays we live in a fast paced society, with a faster pace of life. The world is fast moving and we need to find ways to keep pace with it.
We are quickly running out of time to cope with a fast-paced society. That is why we need to look at how we can make things simpler and more efficient to make learning much easier for everyone.
In fact, I think that this is exactly what we are going to do when technology finds its way into the classroom. It won’t just be teaching; it will be much more.
But the first step is to stop the lecturers leaving us. Technology is moving into schools as never before and it is time to try to reach as many students as possible. The next generation is waiting to find out how we teach and how we learn.
